Looking good @Murdoc, maybe add some texture to the grass to avoid the same green colour? Also i think the tree roots should be bigger.

I do like the flat and monochromatic representation of grass  if not texture, as Kibbelz suggested, you could add details to break the monotony though. Using the LPC tilesets, i'm currently doing this for my own game.
