Make an event item that doesn't consume on use?

Anyone know of a way to do this? I know I can just give the player another one in the event but it still destroys the original and removes it from their hotbar. 
EDIT: I was able to find a way around this by creating a spell, but I'm still interested in the answer to this.

Your best bet now is to do as you suggested and just give them another. 

 

When the source comes out I’m sure you could make a quit edit to be able to differentiate between event based items that are consumed and not consumed on use.

you can solve this just by giving the same item on the event.

 

Edit: ok I didn't read well, just saw you know this way to solve that, sorry!
