Bradley Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Right, sounds nooby I know. But I can't get any external launchers/updaters working so I've resorted to this. But I cannot find any tutorials >.< Any advice?
jcsnider Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Not an answer, but a warning. The built in EO4 updater only updates content and can only update content so if you ever made source changes you couldn't distribute them with the built in updater. Â This makes the updater very, very bad by default. Â I had a guide on EclipseOrigins.com at one point but it was deleted. I no longer know how to use the updater. I am not sure if anyone ever actually used it or if it works lol. Â tl;dr: Turn around and look elsewhere quick!
Damian666 Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 could we/he not just code the exe part in? so it updates client too?  that cant be hard...  ok, just checked, that thing sucks ass xD
jcsnider Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 No. You cannot replace a .exe while that .exe is running. The updater is part of the client. Bad design, not worth using.
Bradley Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 Well, I'm pretty stuffed then. Can't seem to get one working at all >.<
Chronos Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 What are you struggling with exactly? Most patchers that have been available over the years have been rather basic.

But when someone else downloads the patch, they just get a white screen when the client actually opens. I've gone through the whole thing and I can't seem to find a solution.
Chronos Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Is it a VB6 engine you're running? I've seen that several times in the past but could never quite figure out why exactly. Sometimes the way you'd call the client would solve it, or setting the compatibility modes of the game and patcher.
Phenomenal Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 @Essence you sure this isn't just connection time as it verifies?
Bradley Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 @PhenomenalDev I'm sure. They download the files and actually receive them. But the game client comes up with a white screen.

For some reason my post didn't appear for ages.

You may have to see if fidgeting with compatibility modes works out, or change how the client is called. It's a rather annoying ''feature'' of VB6 applications.

Bradley Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 I didn't link the config up correctly. I forgot to add the / at the end of the update URL.
