Yeah I know what you mean, you'll have to wait until the source is out. In the meantime, maybe someone can answer as to how you'd go about doing that from a pseudo-programming point of view?
-
You don't want people to be able to take your art and music from the folders but you want it to be readable by the executable. That's what you meant. Unfortunately this isn't possible yet, you have to wait until the source is out before you can compile the resources as part of the executable. Even then people can decompile and get your assets that way- so why're you really bothering to worry about it? Triple AAA studios can't protect their assets from people ripping them out of a game, it's a bit unrealistic to expect you can. If someone uses your stuff, you can file a cease and desist or DMCA grievance with them which could lead to even more money for you as royalties.

Yeah. I'm getting Index out of range, which is an error that means somewhere there's an array with too much in it- any idea where this array is?

as far as I'm concerned, this topic is done, I would like to close it, Why would you close a post that's creating a discussion? No one is flaming, no rules are being broken. So it seems like you want to close it because you don't want to post here anymore? I'm enjoying reading people's thoughts on this. This is one of the most active posts and as long as it's kept civil, I don't see the logic in closing it to further replies. Off-topic- Hey Damian, Is "vitals" an array in Orion+? ?
-
Interesting, how did you start learning how to fix this stuff? I've always wanted to mess with it but I've never really known where to start.

You mentioned in your opening post that the game is single-player, but that the engine can be diversely used- will there ever be a potential MUD version of this towards the end, or maybe as a separate project? I'm aware there's demand out there for really comprehensive graphical MUDs.

Some of you seem to think this is a reactionary topic and therefore "useless." However it seems from my perspective that this is a proactive post that aims to address the topic whilst the community is still young so we can kind of gauge where everyone sits on the matter before something like this begins to occur and to also reaffirm that we're not generally going to accept the behaviour in the future. If you don't like the discussion, by all means you're free not to post here, but isn't commenting "this thread is pointless" just detrimental to the stability of the forum? I mean, one could say that by doing that you're being negative and doing exactly what the thread was started to address and ultimately prevent. @SkywardRiver Your comment didn't annoy me- the mentality that people should restrict themselves from speaking because someone might get offended is what annoys me. It was highly prevalent back on Eclipse towards the end- in reality it was always there, but Amish really brought it into the foreground and started cracking down on it, whereas before it was kinda passed over/contextual and he started handing out bans, warnings and mutes to everyone for speaking their mind because their opinion was negative and he didn't want the little kids to quit the community because their feelings got hurt. SOME of the Moderators -I won't mention names since one of them seems to be a Moderator here also- enjoyed this free reign to use their power as much as they want and get their jollies suppressing dissenting and negative opinions under the guise of "creating a positive environment."

Quoting what JC said doesn't change what I said at all- he said it was up to the interpretation of the post from the person reading it, which is once again catering to special snowflake people who feel offended reading a post, get triggered and slam the report button because they /feel/ the post is overly negative. As far as I'm aware, most negative posts contain constructive criticism to work from. If you're meaning posts that just say "this sucks kys" then we're in agreement, that such a post is pointless, however that's the only case other than flaming in which a post of that nature would warrant moderator attention. For an example, take a look at my post over in Bachraan's project on Unity- I pointed out all the errors and mistakes, now he can move forward and rectify them and if he disagrees with any of the errors I pointed out, cool, he can go ahead and keep them in. At the end of the day, sometimes you need to tell someone "You're fat" (which points out both the problem and with some reasoned thought a deduced solution, i.e. lose weight) before they get it into their head that they need to lose weight. I don't see anything wrong with having people around who say the shit no one else wants to say. The problem with all this SJW safe zone stuff is that it actually silences people. We all know SJWs are the loud mouth minority overpowering the silent majority, and the reason the majority stays quiet is because if you speak out you get shit flung at you, it's basically a modern day version of witch hunting, on the internet. @John Can't deny you used the site a lot less over the past few years because of the constant revamping of moderation and suppression of negative opinions in order to promote a community that is praising everything regardless of quality.

That's awesome. How would it work if say, you told one person your name was Dave, but another person your name was Fred and you were in a group-dialogue with them both and they addressed you differently? Would you get some negative trust event where both sides now distrust you because of it? Haha, that map gen is sick. I actually thought it was scotland until I saw the big grey phallic lookin' landmass to the right of it. That means your land generation is on point if it resembles a real place, lol.

This, /really/ annoys me. Do you see what happens when you do shit like "report if your feelings are hurt" ?? It encourages people not to post- meaning the dev with the crappy game is continuing to live in ignorance, perpetuated by people who say nothing because they don't want to face consequences and they'll never even hope to improve. And it creates a habitual mentality of non-posting, meaning non-discussion and then you have people like General Pony was like towards Eclipse before he gave up for good (and he wasn't alone by any stretch, many members were the same) - they come on and never post because they know they'll get banned for some stupid shit. Things like the report function and "but i dont want anyone to say bad things" are basically censorship of opinion- this was precisely the problem in later Eclipse- when I joined back in '08, people were upfront and honest with their posts and because people were honest and weren't being handed bans for their opinions that made some 12 y/o kid cry in his bedroom, we really got to know the real characters behind the usernames and that made bonds in the community stronger than a normal community. You can't have an enforced system of "hey, say something nice at least" if there's nothing nice to say. It's like seeing a 300lb woman naked in walmart- you can't say something nice about that before you go and tell the truth- you'll only be able to think "that's disgusting." This is some SJW Safe-Space shit and I'm vehemently against it. There's no need to protect special snowflakes who can't handle reality and we SHOULD NOT be encouraging it.

One thing- why does your character instantly know the names of everyone in town when he arrives? Has he met them all before? You should change it so it's ??????? in the list until the player meets them and they tell their name (via trust.)

Inb4 Kiera Dilworth earns the in-game nickname of Kiera Dildo. Also, the "historium" idea is pretty neat. It's like reincorporating old text based features back in.

Having contributors as a group already contributes to elitism. It's basically monetised elitism. Someone joins, they have no posts then they donate, boom, they now look like they're important. I'm not naming any names here *cough* Kidlion *cough* Contributors should be for people who only contribute resources like code, engine features, tutorials and posts, whilst Donators should be their own group. I'm going to catch some flak from the current contributors who donated. Which would just prove my point. Also veteran ranks never contributed to elitism, not any that I'd ever come across. It just kinda showed me who was sticking around and gave an idea of how long they'd been on the site. Edit: Just saw the above post about staying on topic, but this is part of donating/donators/donations- which is what the topic is about, so I'm not off-topic.

That's very interesting and whilst I don't personally like sidescrollers, it's nice to see some variety in what's being done.

Yeah. Single trees look better.

Are the monsters in your screenshots the ones that Kreator made for Elandor Chronicles? I remember seeing them in the blog posts when he was still working on that game- it's cool he let you use them. For your last screenshot- the floor isn't very good, it just looks like carpet because it's not covered and repeating. What you want to do is create some long and short grass tiles and add some decorations to the floor like rocks etc.

What do you mean split in 4? I tried to use a 16x32 sprite (resized x2) and it didn't work. I just assumed it was static 32x32.

Yeah I was also surprised when I saw the donation amounts. As for what you spend it on, I'm sure I'm not alone when I say; no one minds if you use it for yourselves, as long as you spend it in some way that helps you develop Intersect to where you want it to be. It has great potential and you guys're proven after years of doing it so I'm sure you'll get it all done regardless. Respect to the donators.

Alright, no need to get bitchy. I was just asking if you wanted a key for the box, since I had a few lying around that were never used, but whatever, I guess not.
-
Does the key you want have to be vector art?
-
I think you forgot the tiles.

Ah that's where I was going wrong. I didn't know I had to select a colour. Haha, I feel so stupid now. +rep

I'm confused about how this works, would like to see a tutorial for it. Since I've messed with it and nothing seems to work. So I must be doing something wrong.

It's great we all have this new place to reminisce about good times. Looking forward to some updates.

So you're basically making a better looking Realm of the Mad God with slower combat?
