{How To Make} My game server online for free with NO-IP !
panda replied to AriusII's topic in Community Guides
I'm aware of what No IP does on a feature level, what I was referring to is the actual implementation requirements of the No IP agent you install to keep the domain's A record synchronized with the remote IP of the machine -- i.e. does it require another port to be opened? If Intersect was the only thing needing ports to be opened then Intersect pretty much has that covered already. -
{How To Make} My game server online for free with NO-IP !

Unless NoIP is doing something very special, Intersect and Windows itself should take care of portforwarding through your router (if UPnP is enabled) and Windows Firewall (Windows should prompt you about it when you start the server for the first time). -
@buu is correct that you need to change the server configuration, and the global join message has been removed in beta 6.
-
This definitely will never be added into the engine, ever. Adverts using Khaikaa's idea are already possible.

Oh the suggestion is fine, this post is 10000% because of the replication steps. Yeah I know it was a joke, as is this thread!
-
We have a snarky moderator!
-
Hence my initial post. I know it's technically possible, but the reason I didn't call out resource hacker by name (well one of them, the other was because I forgot what it was called and wasn't going to look it up to then not mention it) is because it's not fool proof, and it's a gamble as to whether or not it corrupts the executable when you try to change too many things without knowing the ramifications (source: I've corrupted an executable changing too many things with it before). The correct answer is "you need to compile it with the desired settings yourself, which requires source". Executable manipulation is not going to be the best option soon, and quite frankly it's a terrible solution for someone who doesn't actually know what they're doing and not something we should have on the forum as an answer, especially not an accepted one. Source.
-
There are some tools that are able to inject a new icon and details into the executable, but to do it properly you need the source and to compile it yourself.

Yeah, Khaikaa is being fired from being the master admin for all eternity!

Offline you mean? As I said, no. Only unban/unmute right now.
-
You can unban/unmute by account name, meaning yes you can unban/unmute an offline player. You can ban/mute by player name. This is per @jcsnider's design decision that reports from other players will come in against player names, which are public, not account names, which are not public, and as such bans and mutes are against player names, which are looked up from the online clients. Unbanning/unmuting is against the account name, which the banned/muted player would be able to provide to a moderator/administrator in order to get their account unbanned/unmuted. Bans/mutes are actually applied to the account, not the player which is why unbanning/unmuting uses the account name, something the administrator would have when a player appeals the moderation action against them, but the mechanism for applying them is against player name. At the very least in Beta 6 the player name lookup can be changed to run against the database instead of online players (or run against online players first, and the database if no matching player is found), but this will make the command more expensive (at least in the case the user is offline), but that is a discussion JC, Kibz and myself can have outside of this thread. As for the crash, if this is when you are running a console command this is fixed in Beta 6. If this is happening from an admin/mod trying to unban/unmute from the client, then please open a bug report if one doesn't already exist.

Guys this is a dev blog not your wishlist to Santa. There's a section for suggestions, go use it please.

No. I expected another arcade-esque side project.

Just want to point out that is what he wanted it for, not (just) for hosting the server. @oOScuByOo

You'd be getting a VPS or dedicated server from them and without paying a hefty license fee it'll be Linux, so no Visual Studio (and I think no Unity?). I honestly think it would be cheaper in the long run to just save the money you'd be shelling out (I think around US$100+ monthly) and just build your own computer.

You can choose to stop acknowledging them for whatever reason you choose but... - It's not a "free tool", only pictures of a few editor panels -- nothing demonstrating progress that would be usable by the people you want to get excited over your work - You can't reasonably expect your thread to be devoid of skeptics - Your answers have been rather coy and selective, which feeds more skepticism - You outright ignored @boberski's question the first time, and again when @Weylon Santana raised it again while specifically noting that it had gone unanswered - Your response to Kibz is overly defensive, to the point where it becomes a question of "why?" Your response to my question was unsatisfactory, but I had no vested interest in pursuing it again and it seemed like I wasn't going to get a real answer. If you're going to begin showcasing your work, you should expect to get questions from the people who are effectively your potential clients, including hard questions. If you haven't made enough progress on the client to showcase it, admit that. If you haven't finished enough for people to do anything with it so it's not available for download, admit that. There's nothing wrong with doing either, but being evasive isn't really going build trust with your target clientele. Returning to the part about it not being a free tool, what is here is not a tool, only pictures of one of three needed applications. Tantalizing as that may be, that doesn't provide anything to potential clients. You may not owe anything to them, as you are building a free tool, but it's reasonable for them to ask for evidence because you are receiving attention from them, which is a time investment on their part.

Just as an FYI, we've known this would be the case since Let's Go was announced.
-
+ Where's the client? All that's being shown is the editor, not any of this being shown to have tangible results in a client.
-
I know that's the common complaint.
-
TBH I think the non-fire non-fire-fighting starters this generation are pretty nice, hopefully they just don't turn into Incineroars or whatever the fuck the middle ugly thing my Litten never evolved into. Get out old man. We young'uns will continue playing our vidyagames.
-
Let's be fair, Grookey looks like monkey shit. Scorbunny looks and is named like fire-fighting rabbit shit. Sobble looks like lizard shit.
-
Intersect is current not open source but when it reaches release it will be. Currently we are working on Beta 6, and once we are finished cleaning up some of the worst parts of the engine we should reach the actual release with source.

VR desktop is what I suggested using, just couldn't remember the name.
