Will it ever be possible to run the client on VR, like HTC Vive or Oculus Rift?

Never say never. But there are currently no plans to incorporate VR support with the base engine. Someone might try once we open source.

Lol why do I keep getting told 2d games in VR are trash?

 

1) You know what 3d comes from? 2d.

2) It doesn't have to be the whole game in VR. The VR could be you standing in a room you can walk around with the game on a screen in the middle.

3) Have you heard of something called 2.5d? It makes 3d out of literally 2d objects.
