  1. Mapping Undo and Redo Dev Blog 09/15/2015 News/Updates I have undo and redo functions in the map editor working now, along with an advanced tile placement preview option. You can see these features in action below. Content/Show Off As always, feel free to post comments and questions below! We are excited to hear your thoughts on our progress!
  2. More updates. I fixed the background a bit so scrolling should be more smooth. I also reorganized the game engine sections of the site so all boards can be accessed from the home page, it will also fix issues with new posts being found upon other issues.
  3. Continued Editor Improvements Dev Blog 08/06/2015 News/Updates There are two big features I want to discuss and several bug fixes that I am not going to go into. Familiar Map Properties: Map properties has its own pane too. If you have ever used Visual Studio or most Microsoft applications you will find them using these really easy property windows. They are neatly organized, give descriptions of each property and user friendly to modify - we are happy to announce that we are using the same system in our editor. Advanced Map List: When you have a lot of maps, or even upwards of 50 maps, it is hard to keep track of them by name or number. We are working on new ways to organize them. With this new map list panel you can create folders, drag maps into them and name everything however you'd like. Folders can have folders, so you can compartmentalize every aspect of your game. However, if you are a little more old fashioned, you can hit one button and the folders will be hidden and maps will be listed numerically just like old times. Everything depicted is function, but could use a little touching up as we near release. Content/Show Off As always, feel free to post comments and questions below! We are excited to hear your thoughts on our progress!
  4. Thanks Gwen. We appreciate the comments and support!
  5. Hi Skunny, Welcome to Ascension ^^. Alright, there are an absolute ton of problem that could be going wrong. So lets start with the basics shall we? There are like 10 parts to this equation, but only 2-3 that we have control of. Let's eliminate your friend, and all the network hops between your place and his first. Go to http://ipchicken.com, what is your public ip address? Post it here please. Secondly, what is your server port? If your server is running, and you enter your IP and Port on this site, does it say online or offline? http://www.canyouseeme.org/ We can proceed based on your answer to all of that P.S. I moved this from Tutorials to Q&A, that should be a little more appropriate.
  6. Detachable Editor Panes Dev Blog 07/14/2015 News/Updates Just a quick update on my behalf. I have started a slight rework through our current game editor. The map layers, properties, map list, and map editor are now panels that can be moved around, organized, resized and hidden by each of you in order to provide the best editing experience possible. These modifications are not yet complete but click the links below to see some of the possibilities. The major benefit that I didn't display here is that when you dislodge windows, you can move them to other screens. If you have multiple monitors you can keep an entire tileset on one screen and the map on the other. This will make you a more efficient mapper and make you fell more badass at the same time! 7. I know that this is just a showoff of a very early prototype of your game, but I was wondering how much better the game looked in UE4. Looking at the island you posted, it seems rather bare. Here are a few things I am noticing: [*]There are no shrubs, tall patches of grass or other 3d sceneary except trees. [*]The terrain is all the same. Perfect grass with trails that makes it look like it freshly mowed. [*]The trees within the city look like they are all equa-distant away. The trees in the background are located a little better it seems. Just to name a few. Are any of these things going to be updated or reworked at all? Unreal will help for sure, but as far as I know it can't add detail that isn't there. I do know this is very early on, so please don't take this as criticism - I am just trying to get a feel for this project and your plans to improve moving forward. 3D is a lot more difficult to do well and I commend you for making it this far. IMO however, a highly detailed 2D game beats a 3D one with an empty world.
  8. Alright, so this is old news but here is the current site logo. We might be sticking with this one for a bit. Thoughts?

    Starhaven

Hi Morbius welcome to the site! This game is still in development and planning stages and is not available to the public yet. With that said there are a few games to look out for including Labyrinth Hearts which is out now and Arkadia which will be released a week from now.
  10. Thanks for the report, it is now fixed.
  11. Thanks all for the suggestions. I am going to try a few new variations tonight and we will see where that leads us. As for the RSS, it already exists http://ascensiongamedev.com/.xml/?type=rss
  12. Do you think it would look better if it was a duller blue, kinda like the links on our pages? Or do you think it would be better to use a more neutral color all together (light gray/white)?
  13. Thanks for the Input Dino. I will try removing the border and making it less transparent to see what looks better. Keep the suggestions coming! Another small edit for tonight, I removed the terrible looking smiley and sound buttons from the shoutbox and make a new sound icon that actually displays if sound is on or off. I am leaving sound on so I know when you all are talking but that option is completely up to you!
  14. Annnywayyyys.............. I continued fixing up the site a bit. Stickied post no longer show up devastatingly white, I relocated the navigation menu to be a little closer to the forum itself. I also uploaded my current logo design for Ascension, it currently looks like this: This is not the final version of our new logo, I may end up scrapping this all together. I like how the logo and slogan holds true to the Ascending theme but I don't know how I feel about its resemblance to the Intersect logo. I think it is cool that since it is under the same company/group the logos share similar features but I also feel kinda lazy reusing the layout. What do you think about this logo? Do you like it? Hate it? What could I do to make it better? Thanks all, JC
  15. It's the only depressing part of the lets not be Eclipse theme.
  16. I want people to use it for all purposes if they'd like. I know some projects can be huge and therefore the maximum upload size both here and in the official downloads center is 500mb. With no cap on how much a single user can upload of all their files combined. With that said, only registered members are allowed to access the filehost and all uploads are logged so uploading anything illegal or abusing the system in general (please, no pornography) can be linked back to you rather quickly. (Use common sense ) -JC
  17. Hey everyone! The filehost is up and running! It can be located in the navigation bar. It is a submenu in the Extras category or you can just click the link below. It accepts most file formats but nothing executable. (No php, html, stuff that could be exploited on the server.) Zip archives, images, and music is fine though! Enjoy! Link to Filehost -JC
  18. You either never instantiated itemData OR you never declared the bounds of the itemData.AddStat() array. We would need to see how these objects are created in order to help further.
  19. An absolute ton of game engines have plugin to support tiles maps. It is very robust. It can export xml files of the map so really you can program anything to support it.
  20. I also just installed a "Say Thanks" module. Basically, if someone helps you, say thanks to them. In the future we will offer rewards and benefits to members who are the most helpful versus having the highest post count. Quality posts are better than spamming always!
  21. Hi all, The new theme is now online! Let me know what you all think. Whether or not you like it, drop a line here and tell me how I could improve it. If you notice any issues with the theme please let me know and I will be more than happy to fix them. As always, you can find every theme from the past here and can go back at any time as long as you are a registered member. Enjoy! JC
  22. Hi all. I just wanted to update you all on some upcoming changes around the site. In the next week or two I am going to be rolling out several changes in my free time here is a short list: 1st. I plan to remove the 'Like' system. It isn't compatible with our current theme or it stopped working. Either way I think a "Thank you" system would be better. Let's reward those who are helping out the most, if we can encourage people to use the system correctly, the right people will get promoted or get site rewards that are to be determined. (Special user group maybe?) 2nd. Integrating Facebook + Twitter logins. We want our members to join with as little effort as possible. 3rd. Bring back the file host! - I want to make a similar filehost to what Eclipse used to have, it is too useful to not have. 4th. [branch out, advertise. - This is the worst part and I hate doing it but we need to start announcing updates on IndieDB, Facebook, etc. Progress updates for the engine will bring people in. And people coming around will keep us motivated to keep working. -- Started anyways. 5th. Open up a 'Support This Site' page. You all probably don't understand just how critical likes, and shares, subscribes, ratings, and follows are to a site these days. If you want to help us out there will several buttons all on one page and all you have to do is click them! 6th. You all have told me several times that the new theme doesn't quite cut it. While I know I can't impress everyone I am going to install some alternatives that will be easy to switch between. Let's see what I can come up with! 7th. We've already added "Best Answer" options to the question section of the forums. That allows users to select the best answer and then others to locate the reply with the solution quickly. This is the short list - if you have any suggestions feel free to shout them out, we're always open to hearing your thoughts!
  23. Okay, put that back but make it look like this: If not ServerOnline Then UpdateUI
  24. Perfect. Remove that call to UpdateUI. It should update in the following server loop which is on the correct thread. Let me know how that fairs.
  25. I want to know where UpdateUI() is called from. If it is a sub on a different thread this might make sense. When the error occurs click Debug > Windows > Call Stack and upload a photo of your callstack like mine below:
