How does stat bonus range work?

So I been wondering, I've tested a few engines and noticed that you can get a variety of the same item, eg. Iron Sword, but they can have more than 1 stat, I figure that's how the stat bonus range works on equipment but how do you set the titles? Like if you wanted a sword of speed how would you go and change Iron Sword or Iron Sword of Speed?

The status bonus is randomly distributed among all item statuses. Including negative values .
