EVOLV got a reaction from Ikelos in [Tutorial] Step-by-Step Quest Creation Using Quest Editor
    Step-by-Step Quest Creation in Intersect
    Date Modified: 6/27/2017
    Engine Used: Intersect 3.1

The following guide will show steps to create a quest which will allow the game developer to take advantage of all the great features Intersect has built in. After reading this guide, the developer should have a good grasp of the ways by which the quest system is set up. The guide uses Intersect 3.1.

Pre-req: You should have some basic familiarity with the Intersect Engine, how to access the Quest Editor and the Events system. You should know the basics of the Event editor commands hierarchy system. You should understand the basics of the Animation editor if you want to add the "!" and "?" symbols above the head of your quest-giver in the Optional Precursor.
Requirements: You should download Intersect 3.1. You should have some sprites to use for your quest-giver event, as well as some monsters set up in the NPC editor. Basic stuff!

Precursor (Optional): For this guide, we will be using quest animations specific to the point in the quest which the player has reached (The "!" and "?" symbols above the NPC's head).

Step 1: Figure out what you want the quest to do.

Step 2: Let's create the quest itself!

Step 3: For this part, we'll need to create an event (an NPC) who will both give the quest and act as a return point for when it is completed.

So I hope this winds up being a help to some folks who are trying to get to know the Quest Editor system a little better. Rest assured I'll try to keep tabs on this thread and improve/add to this as necessary. That in mind, I may have forgotten some things, so if you find an error, etc., let me know! Thanks and happy questing!

    Update as of 6/1 -20

While there is still a lot to do, a testing phase for the current content is not far away.

I've mostly been doing non-visual developing. The current goal is to do what I did previously and do a testing phase to balance out the current content. What is taking up a lot of my time is the ground work that I want to complete first. Meaning creating pixel art, making paperdolls, creating spells/skills and animations, planning up to later phases etc, so that once all of that is complete I can just map and do regular developing for future content.

Currently all of the maps, quests, npcs and so on is (almost) complete regarding a testing phase, but as I said, there's a few things missing such as paperdolls.

The first testing phase I would like to do in 1 or 2 months, perhaps sooner.

A few things to look at for those interested

While this is not really news worthy, I wanted to at least post something, since i created the thread quite some time ago and have yet to post any updates.

    Will update with more later!

First zone Riverwind Fields is finished
Second zone Riverwind Forest is nearly complete, with only a few missing pieces
Non-combat zone Riverwind City/Castle has most parts completed related to the first two zones

Next up I will focus on finishing up the forest and the city elements, to be able to do a testing phase ASAP. Stay tuned!

    Free 2D Fantasy MMORPG Assets

    Introduction
This is a complete collection of sprites, tilesets, animations, interface elements, sounds, music, tools and more for creating free 2d mmorpgs using the Intersect game engine.

This pack originated when @George released his 16x16 game assets. Shortly after, @PixelFox released some sprites, animations, and more that all fit together extremely well. A short fundraiser was held at AGD and we were able to commission more tiles, characters, and much more from @Zetasis and @Xeno.

We continued by commissioning a UI design from @Aesthetic and then proceeded to locate items, animations, sounds, and music with loose licensing restrictions from across the net.

These assets will be distributed by default with Intersect starting in Beta 6. All of the assets in this pack are free to use legally in your projects, even commercially with any engine.

Please see the licensing information below for more information.

    User Custom Asset disclaimer
Any custom assets you see in other peoples games that are based off these graphics are owned by the game developers making that game. Do NOT rip those graphics from their games and use it in yours unless the author has shared their graphics with you privately or publicly within the forums. If you notice someone is stealing your custom graphics specific to your game that you have not shared with the community please contact an admin or a moderator immediately. If a user is caught plagiarising there will be strict consequences potentially resulting in a ban from our forums as its illegal.

    Complementary Assets
This pack doesn't include fogs at this time. (They're on our wishlist!) But here is a good set that I found that would work great in non-commercial projects. The original author never specified any sort of license so these will not be included in this pack by default.

    Acknowledgements
We cannot thank @George, @PixelFox, @Zetasis, @Xeno, @Aesthetic, and everyone else who contributed to this pack enough. Your hard work made all of this possible! I also want to add a quick special thanks to @Khaikaa for helping me with some of the naming and organization of these assets. Thanks again!

It was many years ago when the PlayerWorlds engine got me into game development and since then I've been on and off with tinkering with pixel art. I made something I think is *finally* worth sharing - so here you go! I have a tileset in the works but it's not a huge priority right now. DINOSAURMMO.COM - Try our Open Beta Realm (updated 5/31/2018)
AGE OF THE FOUR CLANS is an upcoming 2D MMO featuring a fantastic prehistoric setting.

"The four Raptor clans of the ancient Earth always held an uneasy alliance with one another. After a meteor devastated the Deathclaw Clan and unleashed strange creatures upon the planet, truces were made in order to find answers and return the world to order. The slime, a bizarre life form which oozed forth from the impact site, quickly spread to all corners of Laurasia, mutating native species and trashing the delicate ecology everywhere it appeared - threatening a mass extinction of all life on Earth."

    Welcome to Beta 2.0!
We're officially THRILLED to be hosted by Intersect Hosting Solutions. We've been up basically 100% of the time and look forward to upgrading into a higher-tier server once we get the crowd to warrant that. We enjoyed 86.7% uptime during Alpha. This should significantly increase as we approach the release version. Regular maintenance will be performed on Wednesdays and the game may be offline during that time. A4C is very much playable at this point, with several exciting things just on the horizon. If you liked what you saw before or haven't taken the plunge yet, we invite you to come give us a try during our Open Beta!

Oh, and what's super cool is, we're running on Intersect 4.8.1! No special add-ons outside of JC's Updater and our own artwork and elements. What a blast the engine has been to work on!

EVOLV reacted to SkywardRiver in Okay so I need an Opinion on these sprites.
You make each frame smaller. If you have 60 pixels of blank, unused space above a head of a sprite, that is calculated in Intersect's code and applied accordingly to where it should render the name. The quick fix is to simply take out any extra space while still keeping all frames of equal dimensions.

EVOLV reacted to Mcadams in Quest Marker Tutorial - How to show available quests to your players using the event system
    Wassup.

In this tutorial I'll show you how to make quest markers in Intersect using the event system. By quest markers, I mean symbols that appear above an event/NPCs head that signify if they have a quest available, if they will have on available in the future, if you're currently on their quest, and if you can complete their quest.

    I. Animations/Art
As far as art goes, you're going to need four different animations. They don't need to be actually animated, but they need to be created as "animations" in your editor.

    II. Quest setup
Before we can start with the quest markers, we need a quest. I'll be making a one-step quest for this example for simplicity's sake

    III. Quest Event setup
Now that your quest is created, we can make the event for it.

    IV. Quest Marker Event setup
Now that your quest and quest event are finally all good to go, time to do what we came here to do — make quest markers.

    V. Result
Assuming you've followed every step correctly, this should be your end result!

Lieutenant Snider is offering a quest, but my character isn't level 5, so I can't start it. However, I know that there is a quest there I will eventually be able to start!

Thanks to some useful admin commands, I can make my character level 5, and boom! Now the marker is yellow, changing animations and showing I can start a quest there.

Talking to Lieutenant Snider, he offers me a quest, and I accept it.

Now that I've started the quest, the marker changes, showing me I have a quest in progress, but I haven't done everything it asks me to do yet.

After doing what the quest asks (collecting four of an item) I will be on the final task, which will be to turn in the items and complete the quest. The marker will change for a fourth time to show that the quest is ready to be turned in.

After talking to Lieutenant Snider with the quest on its final step, the quest will complete, and the marker will disappear, showing that there's no more quests available at the npc.

That's it! If you have any questions on the guide or are stuck on a part, feel free to shoot me a PM on here or Discord, or post a question below. Thanks!

Too, I am glad to have had people following us for so long on this, especially since we really ran into bad times when two hosts previously dropped support for the server halfway through our "subscription" to them. It's fun to see a game with a dedicated following. There are guys on our forum who were there 6 months ago like nothing happened, and that feels good.

If there was a one-size-fits-all solution to this we'd be all over it. As it stands everyone would want something like this done in a completely different way. Once the source is out adding in whatever conditions for players/npcs/paperdolls to show attacking/running/dying/idle/etc movements/animation frames will be possible at your discretion using the graphics format/structures you so desire.

Regardless this is besides the point as adding these features are currently out of the question. Everyone can rediscuss the best ways to tackle actually doing this once the source is out. In the meantime make do with what's there....
